Todd, Ryan, Rod and Jack

Todd and Rod

I decided to count both rounds this weekend. I went to Okoboji by myself because Deb had a "girls family weekend". Rod and I play regularly at Indian Hills (as regular as you can on weekends when we are there) and are both members. On Saturday, we were asked to take along Jack and Ryan who are grandsons of good friends of ours. We said you bet because it's good to get young people playing. Both had played a little and did fine. It was fun. On Sunday, it was just Rod and I. We were going to play 18 holes but with the heat we decided to just play 9 holes on that day as well.

How The Rounds Were Different

The great thing about golf is how it can be different each time out. My scores were identical both days but were so different. Saturday's 41 saw me hit 4 of the first 6 greens in regulation and two putt for pars. I was 2 over par heading into hole 7 and mishit a 2nd shot, hit a tree on an approach shot and took a double bogey. I took a double bogey on hole 8 after hitting a near perfect drive but pulled my approach shot into tall grass surrounding the green side bunker. Had to hack it out and it flew the green. I pitched back onto the green and two putted again. The great thing about golf is you can always look to the next shot. I was able to do that, hit a four iron within 15 feet and two putted for another par to end the round.

On Sunday, it was more of a struggle. I didn't hit as many greens. I had a penalty stroke on the third hole but I one putted three greens and putted in from off of the green on 9 from about 20 feet for par and another 41. Scramble City. That's what I love about it though. Keep grinding and keep playing one shot at a time.

My game and ball striking is becoming more consistent and I am getting some more things figured out. Really happy with my putting both days.

What needs to get better?

  1. Have to work on being able to hit fairway woods more consistently.

  2. Have to work on my lob wedge.
