Sportsmanship Displayed

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021 the Greene County Rams played an epic Substate Final match to advance to the 2021 Iowa State Tournament.

100 minutes of play and we were still tied at 1-1. We remained deadlocked after the first round of penalty kicks so it went to sudden victory penalty kicks. Our opponent missed and one of our seniors stepped in and buried the ball into the back of the net and the celebration began.

As the celebration started I was also blessed to witness a fantastic display of sportsmanship and compassion by one of our players. At the end of the video, you can see our player go to the opponents goalie and shake his hand.

Lost so many times in the big moments of life are the moments that truly define all that is good in people. Sometimes you have to look closely but when you do you may be blessed to be inspired by something others may miss.

Here is one of those moments I was blessed to witness.

Knute Rockne said "One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it."

I am proud of this young man, happy for his parents and happy I was able to witness this player practice good sportsmanship.

There is a lot of good in the world. Keep your eye on the moments outside of where everyone else is watching. You never know what you might be blessed to witness.
