Seek Understanding

Ouch! How many times have I been foolish? I don't want to count how many times I have given my opinion without first seeking to understand what the other person is saying.

We have all had conversations with people who we know are not really listening to what we are saying but are just thinking about what they can say next to offer their opinion. Those are frustrating conversations to be in because it feels like when we are talking we are just giving the "fool" a chance to catch their breath before they offer their next opinion.

As I read this passage from Proverbs it was a not so gentle reminder to make sure I take the time to listen, understand the perspective of the person speaking and not be a fool.

Don't be foolish today. Be wise and seek to understand.
