Leadership Is A Rollercoaster

Do you like rollercoasters? Truth be told I don't. You're up. You're down. The twists. The turns. Right side up. Upside down. The good thing about the rollercoaster is that after 2-3 minutes it comes to a halt and you can get off. Crazy thing is I know some people who like to get right back in line and do it again. They can't get enough.
At the amusement park we have a choice to strap ourself into the thrill ride. The life of leadership doesn't provide us with a choice like that. We just buckle up and hang on.
We just finished our 2021 State AD Convention this past Tuesday. We were all at a high point as we got to learn and celebrate our noble profession after a year's absence in 2020. From that high point you know what happened next. We went back to our daily work and the rollercoaster started to roll again.
When you reach the top of the rollercoaster what happens next? The thrilling part of the ride starts. It happens quickly. You're up, on top, have a bird's eye view and then you're on your way back down twisting, turning and upside down. Well, you get the picture.
That's what leadership is. The ride. Why should we expect anything different? We know what to expect on the rollercoaster at the amusement park. We should expect the same on the leadership rollercoaster.
I'm not getting off of this rollercoaster. I will ride it out. The thrill is worth it. The view from the top and the thrill of the ride keeps me wanting to do it over and over. How about you?
Buckle up. It's quite a ride.
